Hair Shaver

Historic evolution of the Hair Shaver!

The history of body hair removal dates back to the Stone Age! Pre-historic man is believed to have first indulged in it around 100,000 B.C., when Neanderthal man started pulling out hair from his face. It won’t be incorrect to say thus, that hair removal has been evolving since the beginning of Humankind itself.

Pre-historic man used sharpened rocks as body hair shavers and shells as tweezers. As he became more intelligent, hair removal shaver was developed from precious metals. Other materials used as body hair shavers included beeswax, sugar, sandpaper like substances and flint.

You may be surprised to learn that even in those times there were concoctions, made from white grapes, resins and bat’s blood, to serve as shaving lotions and creams. A man would apply one of these lotions before using his hair removal shaver.

It is believed that ancient men and women felt that a clean shaven man stood for cleanliness and good breeding. This belief stands to be true even today for hair removal is considered a method of hygiene to be followed by men and women alike.

Hair removal is not limited to man’s face, neither in ancient times, nor today. The practice of shaving is applicable to hair on all parts of the body, arms, legs and private parts. Besides being a hygiene regimen to follow, hair removal is also indulged in for reasons of personal beautification.

Since body hair removal became a regular phenomenon, there arose a need for a device that would eliminate the dangers of using pre-historic methods. The first safety razor was designed by a Frenchman in the early 18th century. It incorporated a metal guard that would keep the shaver from cutting/nicking the skin, while the shaver was being used.

The world has come a long way since then and various options are available presently for body hair removal. These include tweezing, threading, waxing, depilatories and lasers, besides shaving which remains the most commonly used methods.

In the category of shavers, various types are available in the market today. Be it manual shavers or electric hair shavers, the choice is diverse. Different electric hair shavers perform differently, in terms of shaving precision or the no/need of lotions!
Shavers have been designed to suit a different part of the body. For instance, a nose hair shaver or a hair trimmer shaver, each performs its specific function.

Shavers are personal items and it is advisable to avoid sharing. You wouldn’t want to use someone else’s nose hair shaver or hair trimmer shaver. Not only is it unhygienic but may cause infection.
